The Sea Chest, Appledore, Devon

A complete property restoration in the picturesque North Devon town of Appledore undertaken by Robeda Joinery and Robeda Construction based in Bideford, North Devon.

The project in detail...

The ‘Sea Chest’, situated in Appeldore’s pebbled bustling Market Street, originally formed the front of the quay during the mid-16th century.

The property has been used as a fishing tackle shop and even a brothel a long time ago! More recently it was the fishing town’s main Chandlery shop, selling fishing and boat tackle. The shop, adjoining flat and cottage have now had a fresh lease of life and been fully renovated, reconstructed and restored by Robeda’s Construction and Joinery teams into an exquisite shop, flat and cottage with modern tasteful interiors whilst keeping and accentuating its original period and listed building features, some of which are mentioned below:

Traditional listed features preserved and maintained: 17th century carpentry, flooring, cob walls, lath and plaster, shop front original wooden corbel mouldings, original timber rafters preserved and maintained, front door restored along with new windows, doors, flooring, window cills and staircase fitted - all handmade in our Bideford Joinery workshop.
